Are you an experienced retail leader looking for your next challenge?

Whether you're an established Store Manager or an ambitious Assistant or Deputy Manager ready to take the next step, we'd love to hear from you.

At the Heart of England Co-operative Society, you'll have the opportunity to lead your own store, develop a successful team and make a genuine difference in the local community. Unlike many large retailers, we're an independent co-operative where our Store Managers are trusted to make decisions, build great teams and create stores that customers love to visit.

If you're looking for a role where your leadership will be recognised and your career can continue to grow, we'd love to hear from you.

The Heart of England Co-operative Society has been proudly serving local communities for over 190 years. As an independent co-operative, we're passionate about putting people first – whether that's our customers, our members or our colleagues.

Our stores are at the heart of their communities, and our Store Managers play a vital role in delivering exceptional service while developing high-performing, motivated teams.

About the Role

As Store Manager, you'll be responsible for the overall success of your store. You'll:

  • Lead, coach and inspire your team to deliver outstanding customer service every day.
  • Create a positive, supportive working environment where colleagues can develop and thrive.
  • Drive sales, profitability and operational excellence.

  • Manage stock, labour, waste and store costs effectively.
  • Maintain excellent standards of merchandising, food safety and compliance.
  • Build strong relationships within your local community and promote Society membership.
  • Ensure your store is safe, welcoming and always operating to the highest standards.

This is a varied, hands-on leadership role where you'll have the opportunity to make a real impact every day.

About You

We're looking for someone who enjoys leading people, solving problems and delivering results. You'll ideally have:

  • Experience managing or supervising within a retail environment, ideally food retail.
  • A proven ability to motivate and develop colleagues.
  • Strong commercial awareness with experience managing costs and performance.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • A hands-on approach with a passion for delivering outstanding customer service.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office, Outlook and Teams.

A full UK driving licence is desirable.

Why Join Us?

We know that our colleagues are at the heart of our success, which is why we invest in their wellbeing and development. When you join the Heart of England Co-operative Society, you'll benefit from:

  • Competitive starting salary of £32,000–£35,000.
  • Staff discount across our Food Stores, Funeral branches and Coffee Shops.
  • Annual leave that increases with length of service.
  • Salary sacrifice pension scheme.
  • Enhanced maternity pay.
  • Flexible pay through Stream, giving you greater financial flexibility.
  • Employee Assistance Programme for confidential support.
  • 24/7 access to a Virtual GP.
  • Health and Wellbeing platform to support your physical and mental wellbeing.
  • Colleague discounts platform offering savings with a wide range of retailers.
