Job title: Head of Commercial & Marketing

 

**Main purpose of job: **To drive the overall Commercial and Marketing functions, maximising sales and profitability in line with the strategy of the Food Division. Key performance indicators include sales, waste, sell through, stock holding, gross margin, cash profit, member, and customer feedback measures.

 

**Division: **Food

**Position reports to: **General Manager – Food Division

Length of contract: Permanent

**Salary: **TBC

 

Main duties:

 

Strategic

  • Integral in supporting the General Manager in creating the strategic direction of the Division, whilst specifically devising a compelling strategy for the commercial and marketing department.
  • Act as a key driver of change within the Society ensuring the delivery of our strategic aims.
  • Drive sales and profitability focusing on creating volume sales with a compelling marketing mix.
  • Accountable for the overall proposition covering range and offer, price and promotions.
  • Working within the federal retail trading services buying group (FRTS) whilst working with FMCG and more localised suppliers creating joint business plans to deliver growth.

Financial & Commercial

  • Responsible for the overall success of the Commercial Team, driving the Commercial Manager’s to ensure all areas of range, price and promotion are reviewed and improved upon
  • Create a compelling marketing plan to excite our members and customers, staying up to date with market trends.
  • Develop the overall communications strategy across different forms of media.
  • Set the agenda on our trading proposition and store formats.
  • Work with Commercial Manager’s to provide feedback to the General Manager and Leadership Team, presenting facts and findings.
  • Ensure diligent control of our central administrative function around range, price and promotion.
  • Setting up and maintaining relationships with new suppliers and forming business partnerships with key supply partners, whilst maximising income.
  • Reviewing performance data to measure sales and margin against business objectives.
  • Ensure messages are being communicated consistently and effectively to cross functional teams.
  • Operate with a focus split of 60% strategic and 40% managing through others.
  • Act as a liaison with IGD/FRTS/Suppliers/Partners.
  • Build and continually refine operating practices that are embedded throughout the department.

Qualifications

Qualification in Category/Marketing (desirable)

Educated to A level standard or equivalent, with additional Higher Education qualification (HND/Diploma) or equivalent experience (essential)

 

Relevant experience (essential)

A strong understanding of the Convenience market

Proven track record in leading and motivating a high-performance team within a customer focused environment

Experience within a senior management role

Commercially minded with the ability to apply within a strategic plan

Being a motivational role model

Excellent communicator with people at all levels

Customer focused

Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Sound financial awareness
